Invitation to Submit

On behalf of the Committee, we invite you to submit an abstract for presentation at the 2020 Tasmanian Nursing and Midwifery Conference.

The conference theme ‘INSPIRED FOR THE FUTURE’ aims to share the current knowledge, ideas and developments in nursing and midwifery practice, innovation, research and leadership in Tasmania.

Submissions must include a 250-word abstract. The abstracts will be assessed by the conference committee for quality and applicability to the overall conference theme ‘INSPIRED FOR THE FUTURE’ and the below sub-themes. Submissions are due by 31st October 2019.

The Office of the Chief Nurse and Midwife would like to offer assistance to new presenters to encourage you to take part in this conference.  This might include:

  • Answering general questions on how to prepare your abstract submission
  • Assistance with preparing your written presentation, and/or practicing your presentation skills

Presentation Formats

Oral Presentation
Oral presentations will be allocated 15 minutes for presentation, followed by an additional 5 minutes for question time.

Rapid Fire Oral
Rapid fire presentations will be 5 minute oral presentations.

Static Poster
Printed posters will be A0 size (84.1 cm wide x 118.9 cm high) in portrait format and displayed for the duration of the conference.

Abstract Details

For each abstract you submit you will be asked to enter the following information:

  • Presentation title
  • Preferred presentation format (ie oral, rapid fire or poster)
  • Sub-theme
  • Name/s of author/s
  • Affiliation/s of author/s
  • Indicate the presenter
  • Short (100 word) biography of the presenter(s)

Abstract Submission Procedure

  1. Prepare your abstract
    Prepare your 250 word abstract text. This applies for all submissions
  2. Enter your contact details
    Go to the Presentation Portal (above) to enter your contact details.
  3. Enter Presenter and Author details
    Enter names and affiliations of the presenter and authors.  Also enter brief biography of the presenter(s), 50-100 words is sufficient.
  4. Enter your abstract details
    ‘Cut and Paste’ the abstract text (250 words) into the relevant field in the Presentation Portal.

Review Process

The Program Committee will review all submitted abstracts.

Abstracts may be accepted in a different presentation type to that requested.  Authors in these cases will be advised and asked to confirm whether they wish to present in that format.

Presenter Registration

All presenters will be required to register for the conference and pay the appropriate registration fee. Presenter registration is discounted.  You can register at the discounted rate at the same time as submitting your abstract. Presenters also need to meet their own travel and accommodation costs.

Audiovisual Equipment

Each session room will be equipped for the presentation of PowerPoint slides and include a data projector, computer with external speakers, lectern and microphone.

Presentation Files

Presenters will take their Power Point slides to the meeting on a memory stick, where an audiovisual technician will load your presentation.

Video and audio clips should be embedded in your Power Point slides rather than linking to external files.

All slides will be run from a central presentation computer. However, if you have a complex presentation, which includes multiple media files, we suggest you bring your own laptop as a backup in case of difficulties loading your presentation.
